(Hello friends, today we will read about the topic instruction code in hindi of computer organization and architecture.  And see what are the instructions in this, then let's start.) 

The instruction code is divided into parts and each part has its own interpretation (meaning).

Its parts are :

  1. peration code 
  2. operands.
The most basic part of this is the operation code.

Operation code: 

The operation code (OpCode) of an instruction is a group of bits that define each operation such as: - adding, subtracting, multiplying, and complementing.

How many bits of operation code are needed depends on how many operations are available in the computer.

Operation code must contain at least n bits for the given 2 ^ n operations.

Suppose we have 64 (2 <sup> 6 </sup>) operations, then the length of OpCode will be 6.

The control unit decodes the OpCode and completes the required operation.

operands: 

Operation must be performed in the data stored in the memory or processor register.  Each computer has its own instruction code format.

The easiest way to organize the computer is that the instruction code format should be divided into two parts.

The first part performs the operation and the second part specifies the address.

instruction code formats: 

A normal computer has three instruction code formats.
  •  memory - reference instruction
  •  register - reference instruction
  •  input - output operation

memory - reference instruction: 

A memory- reference instruction that uses 12 bits to specify the address.  And uses a bit to specify addressing mode.

register - reference instruction: 

register - reference instruction is recognized by OpCode 111 (with 0 leftmost bit of instruction).  It does not require operand from memory, so the other 12 bits specify the operation to be executed.

input - output instruction: 

The input - output instruction is recognized by OpCode 111 (with 1 leftmost bit of instruction).

The 12 bits left in it are used to specify input-output operations.

format of instruction: 

The basic fields of instruction format are given below: -

1.operation code field- This specifies the operation to be performed.

2.ddress field- it allocates memory address or register.

3.mod field- This specifies how to determine the operand.
